Disabled Access Day 10th - 12th March 2017

..........................................................................................................................................................................................

UPDATE: Disabled Access Day 2017 may be long past but it has been confirmed that Disabled Access Day for the whole of the UK will be returning in March 2019.

If you are a local business or group and would like to be involved with the plans for Sandbach or another town in Cheshire East, please do get in touch.

If you are an individual and there is somewhere you would particularly like to visit in Cheshire East for DAD 2019, please let us know. We are especially keen to hear about places you would go if any barriers to access were removed - with notice and our feedback, the venue or business may be willing and able to improve access in time for Disabled Access Day 2019.

Did you know that...

The spending power of disabled people and their families is worth an estimated £249 billion a year in the UK?
Of all 52 Cheshire East wards, Sandbach has the highest percentage of disabled residents. Approximately 2% of the UK population are wheelchair users and 56% of disabled people have a mobility impairment.

Disabled Access Day began as a national UK event and is now celebrated world wide, with events and venues featured on national television.  Disabled Access Day is about encouraging disabled people, their families and friends, to go somewhere new or try something new.  It is also an opportunity for businesses to showcase their accessibility. Due to the unprecedented success of Disabled Access Day to date, this year it will run for 3 days from 10 to 12 March 2017.

Unfortunately, Sandbach has gained a reputation for discouraging disabled people from visiting, or shopping in, the town. However, this reputation contradicts the attitudes of local shops and businesses. With the help of funding from Cheshire East Council, 1nclu5ive Sandbach are using Disabled Access Day (DAD) to actively promote Sandbach as an accessible and welcoming destination across the region.

We need your help...

Please join us, our partners and sponsors in raising the profile of Sandbach by displaying posters, putting on a special offer or doing whatever you can to help put Sandbach out there as the place to visit on Disabled Access Day.

1nclu5ive Sandbach will be hosting numerous activities over the three days and can provide an accessible town centre location where normally inaccessible or less visable businesses and organisation can showcase their services. Please get in touch to find out more.

Local offers and activities will be advertised in numerous places e.g. 1nclu5ive & DAD websites, by CVSCE, and Cheshire East Council. To advertise your business or organisation please send us details of your offer or event along with any accessibility information you may have. We can also review your venue on Euan’s Guide.

So, get your thinking caps on and join with 1nclu5ive Sandbach for three days of celebrating all that is accessible and welcoming about our lovely town.

We are also very keen to hear the views of local residents with long term health conditions or impairments. We are interested in hearing about your experiences about local accessibility. Do you know of anyone who does this really well? Please tell us, be their Champion. Do you any have any suggestions for improvements or comments about any social or other opportunities that are currently lacking?

Please see our Local offers and activities page and the Disabled Access Day website (www.disabledaccessday.com) for more details, or contact: info@1nclu5ive.org.uk
