Manchester Disabled People's Access Group

Manchester Disabled People's Access Group have supported us from the start. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to access issues and they have been extremely generous in sharing it with us. It is very reassuring to know that should we ever have a question that we can't answer, they are there to help.

“Manchester Disabled People’s Access Group is an organisation of disabled people and a registered charity.

We promote best practice in inclusive design and access standards and work to improve access to buildings, transport, public spaces, events, information and services.

We do this through membership and project activities, through access consultancy, contributions to consultations, training for disabled people and for organisations, publications and campaigns.”

The Community and Voluntary Services, Cheshire East

The CVS stepped in very early on when the first organisation that we approached felt that they were unable to give us the assistance we needed. The CVS have provided, and continue to provide, us with all the support and assistance we could possibly ask for: from help with policies and procedures to help with funding applications; from training courses to social events; from publicity to new contacts. The lovely people at the CVS have done it all! Not to mention all the general advice, encouragement and feel-good vibes they have shared with us.

We cannot praise the CVS highly enough and would recommended them as first port of call to anyone considering setting up any type of community group, society, club or non-profit organisation, big or small. Don't waste your time going elsewhere - these are the professionals, the A-team, the bees knees... you get the idea.

Community Agents

We'd like to thank the wonderful volunteer Community Agents for all their encouragement and support, and for promoting 1nclu5ive Sandbach far and wide.

Community Agents provide free, confidential information, advice and assistance about local services for people across targetted areas of Cheshire who are vulnerable or in need of support.

Examples of the type of support which Agents provide include:

  • Housing Issues: providing information about home adaptations, repairs and improvements, having smoke alarms fitted, home security issues. We also work with people who may need to move house and assistance dealing with the local authority.
  • Completing Forms: this includes help applying for benefits, or any other forms or paperwork which people may be struggling with. We also help people to learn how to use computers and gain access to the internet.
  • Health, care and transport needs: such as finding and utilising health, care and support services, advice and support for carers, arranging home help and assisting with transport issues.
  • Money matters: including consumer advice and how to reduce domestic fuel bills. Agents offer support and advice on tax, benefits, pensions, debts and savings, and checking how new government guidelines affect individuals and their families.
  • Local information: Agents provide information about leisure and social activities which take place in local communities, and support people to get involved.
